Fair Work First Policy

From engineers to support staff, every member of VWS shares the same commitment to providing solutions and keeping our clients safe, secure, and supported.

Our Commitment

At VWS Ltd, we recognise that our people are the foundation of our success. We are committed to creating a positive, fair, and inclusive working environment where every employee feels valued, supported, and empowered to achieve their potential.

In line with the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First principles, we promote fair, flexible, and rewarding employment practices across all areas of our business.

Our Fair Work Principles

We are proud to demonstrate the following commitments:

  • Employee Voice: We maintain open channels of communication through regular team meetings, one-to-one sessions, and digital collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams. Feedback and suggestions are actively encouraged and acted upon.
  • Workforce Development: We invest in training and development for all employees, supporting continuous learning and career progression.
  • No Zero-Hour Contracts: All employees have secure contracts that provide stability and fair working terms.
  • Opposition to “Fire and Rehire”: We do not engage in this practice under any circumstances.
  • Equal Opportunities: We are committed to diversity, inclusion, and tackling gender pay disparities.
  • Real Living Wage Employer: We pay at least the Real Living Wage, ensuring fair income for all employees.
  • Flexible and Family-Friendly Working: We support hybrid and flexible working arrangements to promote work-life balance.
  • Wellbeing and Respect: We promote mental and physical wellbeing, and foster a workplace built on respect, collaboration, and trust.
  • Career Progression: We provide clear promotional paths and reward hard work through performance reviews, training, and incentives.

Fair Work in Practice

We actively demonstrate our commitment through real examples:

  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, we introduced hybrid working arrangements which remain in place today, helping employees maintain a better work-life balance.
  • We support career development from apprenticeship through to leadership—one of our team members recently progressed from engineer to company director after more than a decade of dedication.
  • We promote equality and family support. When an employee required flexibility due to childcare commitments, we introduced a four-day working week—an initiative we now offer to others.
  • Our apprentices receive both academic and practical training, ensuring they are fully equipped for successful careers.

Training and Development

We maintain a structured training matrix to track employee progress, identify skill gaps, and support ongoing professional development. Annual Personal Development Plan (PDP) reviews ensure every employee has the opportunity to discuss goals, training needs, and career aspirations.

Recognition and Engagement

We reward commitment and performance through pay reviews, incentives such as additional leave or gym memberships, and regular team events.

Our staff achievements and company milestones are celebrated internally and publicly on our social media platforms.

Summary

VWS Ltd is proud to embed the principles of Fair Work First throughout our operations. By prioritising employee voice, wellbeing, equality, and opportunity, we continue to build a sustainable, inclusive, and high-performing workplace that benefits both our people and our clients.
